Strixhaven Codex Bundle Appears at Target While MTG Pre-Orders Are Cancelled and Repriced
US players found Secrets of Strixhaven Codex Bundles on shelves at Target and Best Buy on the set's street date of 15 May 2026, but with a catch on both fronts: Target is pricing the product $15 above MSRP, and a number of Walmart customers who pre-ordered at $99.97 received delivery confirmation emails showing charges as high as $213.94.
The situation was flagged on r/sealedmtgdeals by u/Seaking7797, who confirmed copies available in Northern Virginia Target stores at $105, a $15 premium over the $90 MSRP. The bundles were not appearing in the Target app or on the website at the time of posting, making them visible only to people physically walking the trading card aisle. A two-per-person limit is in place. As u/Seaking7797 noted in the comments, local game stores in the same area had told customers they were out of pre-orders and were uncertain whether they would be receiving stock at all.
Where Can You Find One?
Target and Best Buy are the most consistent in-store options on launch day. u/mandreko confirmed copies at Best Buy in Indiana at $95 each, a more modest $5 over MSRP, and at least one person found a single unit at Barnes and Noble tucked behind the checkout counter. Stock is patchy: u/LordOfTheEons reported watching a shelf clear in about fifteen minutes at one location, and multiple commenters found nothing despite checking several nearby branches.
One Target reportedly scanned a Codex Bundle at $59.99, the same price as a standard Play Booster bundle, apparently due to a system miscategorisation. Whether that is a consistent error across stores is unconfirmed. The bundle contains 2 Collector Boosters, 6 Play Boosters, a dice set, and one of six exclusive promo Talisman mana rock variants. At $90 MSRP the value is reasonable; at $105 it is noticeably less so, particularly when the Collector Boosters that make up the real pull value can be bought individually.
What Happened to Online Pre-Orders?
The more alarming story is coming from Walmart. u/Balmung03 wrote: "I preordered mine at 99.97 and today it was delivered and an email sent to me stating they charged me the 'final total' of $213.94. No cancellation and re-order at list price, just a preorder that arrived and then charged more than 2x that amount."
A second commenter confirmed receiving a similarly inflated delivery email, though their credit card statement still showed the original pre-order price, suggesting the emails may be erroneous rather than accurate charge records. Several people have had Amazon pre-orders cancelled or delayed in the weeks since the set was announced.
The pattern is a familiar one for high-demand sealed product: big-box retailers have stock on shelves at above-MSRP pricing on day one, while local game stores are still waiting. "We don't even have regular bundles at my LGS yet," wrote u/Onimaru1984. "The distributor for the area had a shipping error with Wizards." Players who pre-ordered through their local shop back in March are still waiting for confirmation that stock is even en route. We covered the early European availability separately. That situation arose from individual store locations putting stock out ahead of the embargo, not from a wider supply issue.
If you are trying to get one at MSRP right now, Best Buy at $95 is currently the best in-store option. Checking the counter at independent retailers is also worth doing before paying a premium at a big-box chain, as some are holding stock behind the desk rather than on the floor.
